The Healdsburg Equity Initiative was convened in 2018 to create a space where academic equity for Latinx families in our local public schools could be discussed and solutions formed. Parents, teachers, community members and students meet twice per month to discuss issues impacting the community.
- Goals -
Every Healdsburg classroom should be demographically representative of the student population of the school.
Every student deserves access to all aspects of the offered curriculum.
Families are entitled to complete information and choice when it comes to their children's education.
ELD (English Language Development) curriculum should identify home language use as a basic human right, a bridge to bilingualism, and is asset-based and additive (rather than deficit-based and subtractive).
