Beginning on Tuesday, March 24th at 11am, Corazón Healdsburg will be hosting a "Drive Thru" Groceries to Go at the Healdsburg Community Center, located at 1557 Healdsburg Avenue, in the back parking lot.
This program is in partnership with Redwood Empire Food Bank, the City of Healdsburg and other local non-profits including Sonoma Family Meal and Farm to Fight Hunger. Due to the social distancing order, this will be a "Drive Thru" program, where those seeking groceries will not be getting out of their cars. We will also offer a walk-up option for those without transportation.
Shelf stable pantry items, along with produce and eggs from local farms will be available and volunteers will be pre-packing boxes to be placed inside cars while volunteers can keep social distance. Farm to Fight Hunger, will be providing 30 dozen eggs from their local Healdsburg farm. Sonoma Family Meal, led by Heather Irwin will be providing cooked dinners for 50 families that were made in coordination with chef Kyle Connaughton of Single Thread restaurant. Single Thread Farms and Restaurant has closed for dine-in service and through donations from their network has funded meals for those in need. Sonoma Family Meal will also be providing $5,000 in Lola’s Market grocery gift cards to Corazón families most impacted by COVID-19, including local workers who have been laid off and those ineligible for Unemployment Benefits. Lola’s Market generously matched part of the gift card purchase with a $1,500 donation.
The City of Healdsburg’s Senior Center staff will be on site to receive boxes of REFB groceries to be delivered to seniors in need. Instead of having two different REFB food distribution events per week in Healdsburg, the City’s Senior Center and Corazón have joined forces to provide groceries for seniors in the community who will need delivery and Corazón’s volunteers will assist with packing boxes and unloading the truck and the Senior Center volunteers will make the deliveries. If the first week is successful, it will continue every Tuesday with rotating community partners and chefs participating.
