Breaking cycles of poverty and improving the quality of life for those we serve.
On the heels of our biggest Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration ever, we wanted to provide you with an update on our exciting progress. 2018 was a turning point for Corazón Healdsburg as both our programs and organization saw significant growth.
Programs. The heart of our mission is addressing the under served through programs tailored to education, wellbeing, and engagement. Under the direction of our esteemed Executive Director Leticia Romero, we provide programs on everything from prenatal care, English as a second language, college access, physical fitness and financial stability. We also have created a local action committee, the Comité, consisting of local leaders from the Latino Community preparing them to be advocates for their interests and to mentor the next generation of community leaders.
Our Día de los Muertos celebration has grown to encompass almost all of downtown Healdsburg, a celebration and tradition to honor our ancestors. Today we celebrate this event as one united community.
Development. From small individual donors to our foundational sponsors, our coffers grew more than ever. At our fundraising dinner “Event of the Heart” held in July, we raised over $250K in a single evening due to an incredible community response. These funds have allowed the organization to continue many of its core programs and community outreach efforts. For that, we are truly grateful!
Organization. This year reflecting growth and maturity, we commissioned a top-down review of our governance structure with the assistance of an executive coach. She interviewed all of the key members of the team, including our staff and volunteer board. This process led to a robust dialogue about how to scale the management team to best ensure that Corazón Healdsburg becomes a lasting foundation serving our community for years to come.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of what we’ve accomplished. We couldn’t have achieved any of this without the energy of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. And for that we say, Salud!
In an effort to continue this momentum we ask for your support by making a donation, becoming a volunteer, attending an event and being a part of what Corazón Healdsburg has to offer. It takes a village and we need YOU.
Our Board of Directors are working hard and wishing you and yours the best during the holiday season and a safe New Year!
